The Most Important Healthy Home Swaps
You can't control everything, but you can control what's in your home. These are the swaps that make the biggest difference for reducing your daily toxic load — room by room.

Swap your cookware
Non-stick PFAS coatings degrade and shed into your food under heat — the replace-first in any low-tox kitchen. Titanium, surgical stainless, and seasoned carbon steel cover every job non-stick did, without the chemistry. These are the three brands I actually use.
PFAS-free non-stick
Eggs, stir-fry, and release-sensitive cooking. The titanium non-stick is constructed, not coated.
Surgical stainless workhorse
Stews, bone broth, braising, sauces, and soups without PFAS, PFOS, PFOA, or PTFE.
Stainless prep tools
The roasting pan, Japanese-steel knives, and prep tools are the Misen pieces I recommend here.
Kitchen basics and small appliances

Filter what you breathe and drink
I hired a building biologist to test my indoor air quality — that's what led me to upgrade my air purifiers. For water, if you're not filtering it, your body is the filter. These are the two most important systems in your home.
Water filtration
Multipure preserves minerals while removing contaminants. AquaTru is a great no-plumbing option with a glass carafe. The full guide helps you choose a filter and add optional structuring or remineralization.
Filter shower and bath water
Your skin absorbs what it soaks in, especially during hot water exposure.
What you clean with matters
Conventional cleaners, candles, and air fresheners release chemicals your liver has to process. Swapping these is quick, affordable, and makes an immediate difference in your indoor air quality.
HOCL-based cleaners
Hypochlorous acid is a low-tox sanitation swap for surfaces, airways, and everyday cleanup without harsh chemical fumes.
Clean-burning candles
Choose clean-burning candles made without paraffin, synthetic fragrance, or phthalates when you want the burn-and-fragrance route for air freshening.
Essential oils
Diffuse essential oils as a low-tox replacement for plug-ins, synthetic fragrance sprays, and conventional air fresheners.
What you put on your skin
Your skin is your largest organ and absorbs what you put on it. Conventional skincare, makeup, and deodorant contain chemicals that go straight into your bloodstream. Clean swaps exist for everything.
Clean skincare
Hempsolv serums and cleansers have been a game changer for me. Crunchi, Ilia, and RMS Beauty for makeup.
Aluminum-free deodorant
Mineralized is a powder deodorant with no baking soda, no plastic, no irritants, and no aluminum.
Healthier nail polish
Madam Glam gel polish with a cleaner formulation — conventional polish is full of chemicals you absorb through your nail bed
Clean beauty makeup

What you wear and sleep on
Polyester is a microplastic. You wear it, sleep on it, and absorb it through your skin all day and night. Budget "organic" bedding brands often contain up to 40% polyester despite marketing claims — always check the actual fiber content.
Organic bedding
Sierra Dreams — no polyester in anything. Verify fiber content on any "organic" brand.
Natural fiber clothing
Woolly for natural fiber basics, Branwyn for organic bras — reduce microplastic absorption through your skin
Deeper home upgrades
These are bigger investments, but they make a profound difference. A quality infrared sauna is one of the most powerful detox tools available, and grounding outlets reduce dirty electricity near where you sleep and work.
Low-EMF sauna
Heavenly Heat Saunas — grounded, low-EMF, VOC-free construction with no harmful wood glues or particle board.
Grounded outlets
Install near beds and desks to reduce dirty electricity exposure from electronics
Shop low-tox, store by store
Swapping toxins out of your home is a journey — so start where you already shop. Here's exactly what to buy (and what to skip), store by store, from my in-store walkthroughs.
Target
White Corelle, Tencel or certified-organic cotton bedding, a Casaluna lyocell pillow, and Branch Basics are the wins. Skip polyester pillows, uncertified gauze sheets, and Pampers.
HomeGoods
Great low-tox finds if you know what to grab: solid-wood cutting boards with no glues, borosilicate glass storage, lead-free Libbey glassware, and plain Lodge cast iron. Skip the bedding — roughly 90% of it is polyester.
Now clean up your makeup bag
Once your home is cleaned up, the next thing touching your skin all day is what's in your makeup bag. See the everyday low-tox routine I actually use — skin prep, tinted moisturizer, bronzer, and lips, with my honest picks.
