Guide
Make Your Water Living
Most people drink filtered water and assume they've solved the problem. They haven't. Living water means clean, mineralized, and bioavailable — the water your cells can actually use. Start with one essential step, then go deeper when you're ready.

Start with your EWG report
Before you choose a filter, know what's actually in your water. Enter your zip code at ewg.org/tapwater — it tells you which contaminants are above health guidelines in your municipal supply. Fluoride, chlorine, arsenic, and heavy metals vary wildly by city. The right filter for you depends on what you're filtering out.
Filter your water
If you do only one thing from this guide, do this. Municipal water contains chlorine, chloramines, microplastics, pharmaceuticals, and often fluoride. Your body becomes the filter if your home doesn't. Which filter depends on three things — whether you own or rent, whether your EWG report shows fluoride, and whether your area has hard water. Here's how I'd choose:
| Your situation | My pick | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Renting, or no room for plumbing | AquaTru (countertop RO) | No install. Removes fluoride and heavy metals. Requires Step 3 remineralization. |
| Own your home, EWG report shows fluoride | AquaTru or MyPureWater | Only RO and distillation remove fluoride. MyPureWater goes deepest; AquaTru is faster day-to-day. Both require Step 3. |
| Own your home, no fluoride, soft water area | Multipure (carbon block) | NSF-certified. Preserves your minerals — no Step 3 needed. Simpler protocol. |
| Want no power, no plumbing, no supplements | Rorra (gravity) | Plug-free and remineralization-free. Leaves minerals in place. The lowest-effort path. |
| Near a nuclear facility, chemically sensitive, or want the deepest clean available | MyPureWater (distiller) | Nothing survives the boil. More hands-on — cleaning, slower output — but the purest water you can make at home. |
Whichever you pick, get your EWG report first so you know what you actually need to filter out.
Do NOT rely on your refrigerator filter
It doesn't remove the contaminants that matter, and carbon particulates from cheap cartridges can carry heavy metals. It's a false sense of security.
Shower water and storage
Your drinking water is only half the picture. Your skin absorbs what it soaks in — especially during hot showers when pores are open and chlorine is off-gassing into the air you're breathing. Filter your shower. And once you've filtered your drinking water, don't store it in plastic.
Filter shower and tub water
Point-of-use bath and shower filtration matters because your skin absorbs what it soaks in.
Store filtered water in glass
Use a glass crock on the counter so filtered water is easy to dispense without plastic storage.
Structure your water
This is my personal water protocol — an optional upgrade for people who want to go deeper. Spring water tumbles over rocks and through the earth; that vortex motion is part of what makes it feel alive when you drink it. A structuring unit replicates that vortex at home. I run every glass through mine before drinking. If filtering feels like the baseline, structuring feels like the upgrade.
Add vortex structure
Run filtered water through the vortex unit after filtering and before minerals when you want the deeper living-water upgrade.
Mineralize your water
If you're using reverse osmosis or a distiller, your water is clean but stripped — all the minerals are gone with the contaminants. Filtered water without minerals is "dead water"; your cells can't absorb it efficiently. Add minerals back and it becomes water your body can actually use.
| Your filter | Minerals stripped? | Remineralize? |
|---|---|---|
| AquaTru (RO) | Yes | ✅ Yes |
| MyPureWater (distiller) | Yes | ✅ Yes |
| Multipure (carbon block) | No | Not needed |
| Rorra (gravity) | No | Not needed |
Quinton Hypertonic
My primary. Concentrated seawater from marine plankton blooms; 78 trace minerals in a natural ratio. 1–2 tsp per gallon of filtered water.
Quality mineral salt
Baja Gold, Jacobsen, or Crucial Four M Icelandic Flake. A pinch per glass. Accessible, low-cost, not as complete as Quinton but an easy place to start.
Use electrolytes when you need more
For active hydration beyond baseline water, add a clean electrolyte mix-in.
Products I actually use
Every product in my living-water protocol — filter, shower, storage, structure, and hydration. Personally vetted and used daily.

Multipure
NSF-certified carbon block. Preserves minerals, so no remineralization needed — but does NOT remove fluoride. Best for soft-water homes without fluoride.

Clean up your home
Once you trust the water you drink, widen the lens. The everyday objects in your home — cookware, cleaners, plastics, fragrances — are quietly undoing the work you're putting in. Swap the worst offenders next.
